The last stretch of a coastal walk always feels different, when the light goes soft and the sea calms its noise. This is that walk after the sun has done its work: wind moving through cliff grass, gulls settling into the rocks for the night, the far-off promise of a warm inn and a door that finally closes behind you. A gentle wind-down for a tired body, paced for the slow work of falling asleep.
